Tenerife, is the largest of the seven Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean south West of mainland Spain. The island also is home to the highest mountain of Spain, Mount Teide standing at 3.718 mtrs. above sea level.

The language is Spanish although spoken with a local dialect. English is widely spoken as, like most European countries, the island is very cosmopolitan.

Year round sun and stunning volcanic scenery make Tenerife a much loved island with the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter for virtually anywhere in the world. The weather occasionally includes rain, but there is no specific rainy season. The minimum and maximum annual average air temperatures are about 15C in winter and 24C in summer.

The Island offers a surprising variety of micro-climatic weather zones, enabling people to almost choose their climate, depending on where you live. The Trade winds, together with the refreshing Gulf air currents, are the major weather factors that contribute to Tenerife´s wonderful climate.

Carnival
According to many people the carnivals are one of the most well-known features of Tenerife and the best after those of Rio de Janeiro. The main celebrations take place in the capital, St Cruz de Tenerife, in the areas near the port where people dance to the sound of the best Salsa groups.
